Rear Extension - Brixton
Our client here wanted to open up the rear of their property to add a spacious and modern kitchen diner that joined seamlessly with a patio space outside. The intention was to really make the kitchen the focal point of their home particularly for entertaining. One of the key criteria set in the design phase was to flood this traditional Victorian house with light and to create a different open space to the more cosy and traditional rest of the ground floor. Creating a nice sociable space with a large island unit in the kitchen and plenty of cabinet storage was also a must.
The old layout of the kitchen did not allow a lot of movement due to a small doorway to the kitchen which, then, led to the backyard. Our strategy was to remove that wall and connect the sitting room with the kitchen while also maintaining the different aesthetics and functionalities. We segmented the sitting area by elevating it from the kitchen. By adding a new pantry in the kitchen, that replaced the existing door, a new storage facility was created along with the kitchen cabinets. The kitchen was refurbished entirely with more workspace and area to sit down at. A new dining area was created under the big roof light, by doing this we maximized the utilisation of the kitchen area. While the rear extension opened up the kitchen to the backyard with bifold doors. This culminated into a sitting area connected to kitchen and extending to the backyard creating the open, illuminated space while utilising the space to its full potential as per our client desired.
This rear extension project cost added up to around £77k and took us 12 weeks to complete. With the success of this rear extension, we have also done a loft conversion for this client.
